5 truthful lessons in business

5 truthful lessons business and leadership roles have taught me in the past 10 years.

A few years back, in my early twenties, I started a business from the ground up with a former partner. In between, a few leadership roles and fast forward several years, along came Alchemy Creative Designs. Here are five truthful lessons I have learnt while starting and running a business.

  1. It’s better to overestimate the costs of starting up rather than underestimate – We grossly underestimated the costs of marketing and exposure.
  2. You cannot do it ALL – Do what you can do but be led by your intuition. You know your mind and body over anyone else. Do what you can do and then outsource what you can afford. Invoicing, emails, socials. Start small, even if it is one task you outsource, it means it’s frees up your brain and allows for a more efficient workflow.
  3. Plan, plan, plan – Plan and research your business and competitors. There’s a fine line between researching competitors too much, sometimes it can lead you astray from your vision and you can end up misaligned. Stick to your vision and truth and you will be more than okay.
  4. Don’t have expectations of how things will go – They don’t always look linear. It’s great to have a vision and goal but be adaptable and flexible within your business.
  5. Change is GREAT and inevitable – Change means growth and adaptability builds resilience.

BONUS – A cheeky 6 and THE most important thing.

6. Self care routine – Make sure you take time for you and you only! A daily or weekly non-negotiable that is solely dedicated to you. Your mental health is the most important thing above all else. Without that, you won’t be able to operate within your business and in your daily life to your full capacity.
